It's my turn to edit the blog this week and to start with I thought I'd share a few images from my trip to Bangladesh, all those weeks ago at the start of last term...
These are just some typical scenes from Dhaka city, where the conference was based. As you can see, Bangladesh is a very poor country, and thought to be one of the most densely populated in the world. Around 85% of the population lives in rural areas, in huts like the one in the first two photos. I was surprised at the degree of westernisation though; in the central city there are huge billboards everywhere, advertising products like Sunsilk shampoo, and cellphone companies especially. They are all brightly coloured and new, a stark contrast to the otherwise dusty, rundown state of the city.
