Ok todays daily rant will be on the whole student issue which everyone seems to be angry about at the moment. I was reading an article in the paper recently about how us students are really shit at saving our money and have no sense of the size of our student loans. It then went on to tell us that our generation is going to ruin the economy when we become parts of society (whatever that means). Because we will have massive student loans and will be irresponsibly swindling away our money instead of paying them off.
Two things pissed me off about this article. The first one being that these people somehow expect us to work and earn enough money to pay for our living expenses and our student loan and on top of that finish our degrees with good marks. Then they go on to make these unfounded assumptions about what we are going to do with our money when we graduate. Thinking were all going to go nuts and buy gold plated toilets or something.
Secondly the title read something like "varsity students in huge debt."
It's called university now not varsity! Varsity was back in the day when you didn't have to pay for their education. Varsity is where this journalist evidently went and got their free education. They could therefore save their well earned money to there hearts content and were therefore valuable amazing contributors to society. I don't really have a problem with paying for uni I don't thing the country has the money to pay for everyone to attend uni, but it just really irritates me when we get unfairly judged for having debt. Imagine what would happen if we all decided not to go to uni until we had saved for 10 years so we could pay for uni without getting a loan. The country would get messed up. We would have such massive shortages of trained people across all sectors that nothing could function. Anyway I will leave you with this very funny youtube clip from Chaser's War On Everything.
Agreed. I propose a solution to all of our problems. Perhaps, before we start saving other countries we should get our own shit sorted first.
ReplyDeleteNew Zealand Vision - Sponsor a Student
For about $1 per day, you can transform a student's life by providing basic necessities like food, clean water, healthcare, contraception, education, and more.
Ill pass the idea onto John Key this weekend.
Go Ella!
