Preview, a show of emerging south island artists is worth checking out. The mirror ball piece covered deer head emerging from the floor is quite impressive. And Amrusha Dalvi's photography is very cool, its quite haunting and deals with loaded subject matter of religious practice and how it is 'walked over' so to speak. These are only a couple of the works showing, there's heaps more to see.
Ben Reid is showing in the front gallery. I really liked the contrast of his delicate etchings of small birds printed on elaborate wallpaper patterns. His work is quite interesting in the way it deals with the destructiveness of human impact on endangered native birds.
Mel - the Elizabeth Moyle show you mentioned is on now. I really liked the contrast of mixed media effects within her works. She combines ink, pencil, watercolour and ink in her drawings, and the effect of the softness of watercolour against the roughness of charcoal is quite nice. You might like them in terms of the illustration work you have been looking at. Theres also a work in Preview that reminded me of your obsession post-it note work, with tags hanging on the wall to represent a conversation and a lack of communication and the idea that it's meant to overwhelm the viewer.
